1 · Load your profile
Paste your Steam profile link. Your avatar, animated avatar, avatar frame, level, name, real name, location, summary, profile theme, status and numbers (games, badges, groups, friends) load from Steam, with the background you have equipped.
2 · Try backgrounds
Paste any Steam Market or Points Shop background link, or open the Steam background gallery with every profile background on Steam, filter by game, colour or animated, and send one here with a click.
3 · Cut and upload
Pick the Artwork, Featured or Workshop showcase and download the cut pieces: PNG for still backgrounds, GIF for animated ones. Upload them to Steam as artwork and choose them in your showcase.

How do I preview a background on my Steam profile?
Paste your Steam profile link in step 1. Your avatar, level, name, numbers and equipped background load in a few seconds. Then paste any Steam Market or Points Shop background link in step 2, or pick one in the background gallery, and the page shows it on your profile.
What sizes does the Steam artwork showcase use?
The artwork showcase has a 506 px wide main part and a 100 px wide side part with a 9 px gap; on the background they start 467 px left of the centre and 256 px from the top. The Featured artwork showcase is one 630 px wide piece from the same left edge. The Workshop showcase shows five 150 px tiles.
Can I cut an animated Steam background into GIFs?
Yes. When the background is animated, the pieces download as GIFs made in your browser, each kept under Steam's 5 MB limit by lowering the frame rate when needed.
Is my Steam profile or anything I upload sent anywhere?
Your public profile is read from Steam to draw the preview. Images you choose under My images stay in your browser; the cut pieces are made in your browser too.
Why does my profile show as private?
Steam only shares the name, avatar and equipped items of a private profile. Set Profile and Game details to Public in Steam's privacy settings to see your level and numbers.
Do the pieces line up on every screen?
Yes: Steam centres the background and the profile column, so the pieces line up at every window width, as long as the background is shown at most 1920 px wide (Steam's own rule).
